The ASBI Awards of Excellence 2013

Danube Bridge at Vidin (Bulgaria) – Calafat (Romania)

The 2013 ASBI Bridge Award of Excellence has been awarded to the Danube Bridge at Vidin (Bulgaria) – Calafat (Romania). This bridge was completed by BBR PTE, Spain, and consists of 2,100t of BBR VT CONA CMI post-tensioning in the precast segmental concrete deck, 65,000m of plastic duct and 208 BBR HiAm stay cables. It was also the first project to feature the innovative BBR HiEx CONA Bundle Saddle for the extradosed bridge configuration. The judging for this award was very rigorous and comprised of the following comprehensive criteria:

· Innovation of Design and/or Construction

· Rapid Construction

· Aesthetics and/or Harmony with the Environment

· Cost Competitiveness

· Minimization of Construction Impact on the Traveling Public
