BBR stay cable technology supports mining operations

Innovative use of BBR DINA/HiAm stays

In an unusual and innovative operation at BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s Mount Whaleback facility in Western Australia, eight BBR stay cable have been fabricated, installed and stressed to support mining operations.
Two towers had been constructed, as part of a strategic growth program, and required BBR DINA/HiAm stay cables to be installed on them to support conveyors used at the Newman Hub for stock piling of iron ore.
Each tower has four stay cables and each stay cable has a BBR DINA/HiAm Socket and to secure the cables, massive 370 kg anchor heads were used. The huge weight required BBR Network Member Structural Systems to devise new systems for the installation of the stay cables which were fabricated at ground level and lifted into position.
